Legal Question in Family Law in California

Limit to Court Postponements

I filed for divorce in 1997, yet everytime the court date comes up the lawyer calls the night before to say the date has been postponed for another 3 months, reasons vary from his lawyer is out of town to the kids lawyer can't make it and on and on. I just want to move on and have at least the divorce part over with and hash out the rest after. Is there anything i can do. I have changed lawyers twice and have gotten nowhere in over 5 years.. Help

Re: Limit to Court Postponements

You might file a motion to bifurcate the issue of status of the marriage from all other issues. Your spouse may agree with the bifurcation and no hearing would be required. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
