Legal Question in Family Law in California

Limits to jurisdictional boundaries

Can enforcement of child support judgements and/or restraining orders issued by California Superior Court be avoided by re-locating my residence and personal assets to another country? (ie. Spain, Mexico, Carribian Islands)

Dear Deadbeat Dad Wannabe:

Generally, foreign countries under either comity or international treaty enforce the child support orders of another country. If you are a big enough jerk to do the research, go for it, but an attorney is under an ethical obligation not to assist you in violating the law, which is what you would be doing. My legal advice to you is that you think with the right head and keep the other one in your pants. No one should be cursed with a father who has such thoughts. Second bit of advice, grow up. Now I may optimisticly think that you were just testing the waters to see if some attorney would help you do this diabolical deed, in which case, I hope that you are wrong. Pat McCrary
