Legal Question in Family Law in California

I live in Ca. My husband personally handed me divorce papers. Does that make them void? There is a 3 year old involved. Neither parent has Ca.residency.

It does not make them void at all. All it means is that service of process on you has not been validly completed. If you live in CA why do you say you do not have CA residency? If you moved here less than six months ago then you are right you would not have residency. If you are close to the six months, however, and the child is with you, and you want to stay in CA with the child, you should talk to a CA family law attorney right away.
