Legal Question in Family Law in California

I live in California and have 50/50 custody of my son. My son is afraid of his father and no longer wants to go to his house. My son will be 15 next week. Can my son choose where he wants to live? His fear is if we go to court and the judge denies his request then when he spends his time at his dads his life will be a living hell because his father will be mad that he doesn't want to live there any more. His dad is an overly strict disciplinarian.

The older the child is, the more likely the court will factor the child's desires into a placement order.
