Legal Question in Family Law in California

I live in California and would like to know..what does it take to get my retainer fee from the attorney I had hired for my divorce, but decided not to divorce afterall..this was a $11,000 retainer fee, within 3 weeks of services I decided to cancel the services.Haven't heard back from the Lawyer nor her staff after several calls to the firm..What type of correspondence should I take to get my $$$....Thank U!!

If you have a written retainer agreement, you need to check and see if it provides that the retainer is earned when paid, or is just a deposit against fees. A $11,000 earned retainer is awfully high, though, so you may have recourse even if it is an earned retainer. You should contact the state bar's complaint line. www.calbar.ca.gov
