Legal Question in Family Law in California

I live in California & want to leave my kids father, we are not married. Can I move with my kids across state? Being the mother do I have custody of my kids. Also since I am bipolar and everything is well controlled by meds can that be used to prove I am an unfit parent?

You need to file and serve a paternity petition with a motion for child custody, visitation and support. Moving without court orders permitting your move risks the judge ordering that the children must return to California.
