Legal Question in Family Law in California
I live in California and am planning to file for divorce. My husband's father owns a business but is officially retired. My husband is in control of the business. Do I have any claims to the business?

There is no way really to answer this question without investigating the ownership of the company and the contributions to it. The bottom line, however, is that whatever interest your husband may legally have in the company, that was acquired during the marriage with money earned or efforts made during the marriage, you can assert a claim to some part of that. If your father-in-law retains complete legal ownership of the company, and your husband is a mere employee, however, then your husband has no legal claim to the business and therefore you do not either.
