Legal Question in Family Law in California

Living in California-Spouse in Ohio

I moved to California from Ohio last December. My spouse still resides in Ohio. We have no assets to split, We have children, but neither of us have custody. The children reside in S. Carolina. My spouse has agreed to getting a divorce but hasn't filed. I would like to be divorced ASAP. I have enquired to a paralegal service and they have told me that it will take six months and a day from the time I have filed for the divorce to be final. I don't know exactly where my spouse is. My only information about his where abouts has come through his mother. I have also enquired about divorce through the Dominican Republic, but as of now cannot afford this procedure. Is there any way I can get divorced sooner? I am choosing to remain in California. Also, can I file for divoce in Ohio while still living in California even if I fly there to file?

Re: Living in California-Spouse in Ohio

I can only answer for CA. In CA it takes 6 months from the time your wife is served (not the filing date). If you get divorced outside of CA then the local rules for that area will be used.
