Legal Question in Family Law in California

How Long does the court have to fully bill me for legal services. Case closed over a year ago and yet new bills are coming in to which they want me to sign. I signed one and asked for a total and now new bills are still coming from the same law firm. Its like a string bill. So Frustrated.....

More spacific, Yes it was a criminal case against the spouse. Court apointed public defender for myself and for each of my kids (2). Case closed over a year ago. They sent me a bill to pay, it said total amount due... I make arrangements to pay. Now this is the third time they are going to add to the bill after the case had be closed. Why is it they can not just give me a Finial TOTAL? I was not the offender in this case. I under stand parental obligations to pay..But this is getting alittle tiresome. I have had to claim BK. Would talking to the judge help?

You should contract the public defender and request help resolving this situation. The public defender apparently represented you and two of your children. That could result in 3 orders for the payment of attorney fees. It would appear that each of these orders were made independently. They should have been made at one time. Repayment of the public defender should be based on your ability to pay. Therefore contact the public defender and ask them to have the matter brought before the court for a reduction in the total amount of attorney fees you should have to pay.
