Legal Question in Family Law in California

What took so long where did the money go

I was told around 5 weeks until I saw a judge and paic 5000 retainer They didnt file on time to the mediator, every single thing the law clerk did involved a conference with a partner so basically I was billed 2 times for what? 22 hrs total and 2,200 extra just for her to finish a supp decl and osc with no legal research. 5 weeks turned into 5 months and they charged me 2000 more and want 2500 more to

retain to appear for a follow up. They made 1 court apperance for less than an hour. how do i find out if the mediator received the osc/decl on time because she said she didnt have any info on the case and the declaration was not even on pleading paper

I would take your file and bring it to a second attorney for a review on what happened with your case. It may be that your attorney is billing you unethically. That may be the case, or you may not understand all of the work involved behind the scenes. You can take billing disputes to arbitration with your local bar association.

As always please consult an san jose family lawyer attorney prior to taking any legal action. Good luck.
