Legal Question in Family Law in California

Long-Term Relationships

Hi, I was recently told that if you have been in a long term relationship (specifically marriage), that even though you may divorce, you can still be held accountable for your ex-spouse. Like if an ex-spouse were to get sued for a DUI, the state or whoever, could go after the former spouse. This is just an example. I'm just curious if there is such a law especially since it seems so unfair to be held responsible for an ex-spouse just because you were married for 15 years or something. I would appreciate any information you can provide on this subject. Thanks!
