Legal Question in Family Law in California

Marital credit in community property states

I have been (and still am) married to my husband since 1985. How can I be placed on his credit reports, or get credit using his credit report? Does he have to sign for me? Can I legally sign his name? Thanks

Re: Marital credit in community property states

You can legally sign your husband's name if he so directs. It obviously appears that your husband is unwilling to allow you any credit in his name. Therefore, you cannot legally sign his name to get credit. However, unless you signed a prenuptial agrement, all property you or your husband owns as well as all debt is community property (with a few exceptions). So, you can use your husband's bank statements, credit reports, and property in his name to obtain credit. Whether a creditor is willing to extend credit to you based upon your husband's name and property is another issue.
