Legal Question in Family Law in California

marriage in California

a friend was married in a ceremony approximately 5 years ago. It's been a rough time and three children later, found out that his mother changed the name of his birth cert. to reflect her new husband's last name. no legal paperwork done. He married with the last name of a man that was forged on to his birth cert. and not his birth name.

my question: is this a legal marriage? He had no idea what had gone on. She became suspicious during the first tax return. Tax man asked who's name is this?? but the scam has gone for years now, unknown to this youngman.

Is this a legal marriage?

she married Jack ***** and he is actually Jack *********.

They are no longer together.

Re: marriage in California

A change in his name should not make any difference on the validity of his marriage. If he wants to change his name to something else he can file a petition to have his name changed legally.

As always please consult an attorney prior to taking any legal action. Good luck.
