Legal Question in Family Law in California

Marriage of Conveinence

A platonic friend of mine in the service has asked me to enter into the marriage contract in order to received an increased income. The marriage will be only papper only. We won't live together or share anything except the contract for 4 years. He is also offering to pay me monthly for it. I am unsure of the legalities surrounding these types of marriages and would like to know if this is legal and if not what the consenquences are?

Re: Marriage of Conveinence

This is really a criminal law question in that the marriage would be a sham but I will attempt to answer you anyway because you really need to hear this from an attorney. What you are proposing on doing is a crime, it's called fraud. You would be lying to obtain money. I don't know what the sentence is if you are convicted but it would mean going to jail. Plus you may never be able to get a job that involves money because you will have a record for dishonesty. The fact that he thought this sceme up tells me you need to dump him not marry him.
