Marriage license

I am from South Dakota, my fiance lives in CA. We are getting married in CA. In the event of a divorce would it be better for me to have gotten our marriage license in another state? What would happen to my assets in a community property state like CA?

The state in which the marriage license and marriage occurred does not necessarily determine how the property is dealt with in case of a divorce. The state in which the parties live and the property is located is generally determinative of how the property is distributed.
