Legal Question in Family Law in California

Is my marriage even valid?

I was married in December of 1989. My wife was supposedly divorced before we got married (we've actually been seperated the last 4 years now.), however the online court records reflect a ''DISSOLUTION WITH UCCA'' with a date of June 1991. Does this mean that her divorce wasn't final until a year and a half AFTER we were married? If so, am I even legally married? We were married in California, but I currently live in Washington State.

Mr. McCrary is right - you need to look at the file. Then you can determine what you want to do next. If you are in WA, you can under certain circumstances divorce her here; I don't have enough information to advise you.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell

You should go to the court and review the file. The online entries don't tell everything you need to know. You should probably make a copy of the file or at least the judgment and have it reviewed by an attorney. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
