Is my marriage valid?

Married in 1998 and my husband supposedly never mailed in our marriage license, we separated after a couple of years(2000) but never filed for divorce because we thought our marriage was never registered. In 2007 I married again not knowing my first marriage had been recorded. I decided to look into the matter of the first marriage and I did receive a copy of a marriage cert for the first marriage?

Do I file for divorce from husband #1? Does this nulify my second marriage?
