Legal Question in Family Law in California

If I was married in one county, can i file for divorce in another?

I was married in ventura county, we have only been married for a year now; but have been separated for 7 months. I live in another county now. Both of us are ok with the divorce, and we have no kids. Do I have to file the paperwork in the ventura courts or can i do it in the LA county courts?

You have to be a resident of the county for a period of 90 days prior to date on which you file the petiion for disolutin of marriage.

You probably qualify for a Summary Dissolution which is the least complicated process. You might be able to file it in the Los Angeles Court if you meet the residency requirement.

I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer or paralegal assistant. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!
