Legal Question in Family Law in California
I have been married for 11 and a half years. We have 4 children together. My husband has been the sole supporter of myself and our kids for the whole length of the marriage. On July 4th my husband quit his job and left my children and I to live 5 hours away. He has hardly sent any money for us at all and asked for a separation on the day he left. He called me this morning to tell me that he has been having an affair. I would like to file for divorce and custody of my children. Since he has been my only source of income I do not have much money at all. Are there any resources for free or low cost divorce lawyers? Or someone I can make payments to? He threatened me today that he would take the kids and take them to Mexico and I would never see them again. Thank you very much.

Often in such divorces the husband has to pay the wife's attorney fees. Contact some divorce attorneys to find out if they are interested in your case and what you are entitled to. There are some women abuse support groups that might also be able to help. The threat to take the children from you and go to Mexico is a complete falsehood. The children are physically with you; he would need a court order to get custody. What judge would allow him to take the children out of the country? You are entitled to child support and alimony.
