Legal Question in Family Law in California
I have been married for 14 years . My wife is incarcerated awaiting trial for manslaughter related to a DUI. She has a public defender. I want to divorce my wife and want to know the financial implications for me. I have a home and an eleven yr. old daughter. I have been the sole bread winner for the family.

You need to arrange a free interview with several divorce attorneys to find a more detailed, complete answer. Also, read the Nolo Press book on divorce. Basically, you are going to have to split the community property, pay some alimony, not be able to deduct her as a dependent on your taxes, etc. What is the effect going to be on your daughter?
You must meet with an attorney skilled in California Family and Divorce law to get the proper legal advice.
You will need to at least speak telephonically with an appropriate attorney to get more details on your situation, at which time you may get a fee quote for a retainer. At that time, you would need to go into the office and retain the attorney.

What the other attorneys say is correct, that you will need to talk to an attorney in person, but they don't say why, so allow me to explain. The financial results of a divorce are dependent on all the financial details of the family. So without going over at least the broad overview of your family finances, there is no way to even begin to guess at the financial implications of divorce for you.
