Legal Question in Family Law in California

I'm getting marry in july, but don't want a marriage license, do you think it's

I'm an accountant, I don't own any properties. When my finance asked me to marry him I said yes. He's 17 yrs older than me, yougest son in the family, his father own 2 properties and he owns one. When I asked for dowry he became a different person because he went to tell his sister. He's not trusting me and I don't either. But he disagree of not having marriage license. But even if I do get it, and end up divorce I won't get anything. Do you think it's wise for me not to have a marriage license? If I do get marriage license, what can I get when I get divorce later? He's very smart guy and doesn't share anything that's going on in his family financial status. I'm very nervous and bitter about how he's treating me financially. That's why I don't want to even open a bank account w/him. Please help as much as you can. I'll be very much appreciated from your advice.

Why are you going through with the marriage when it appears that you are not happy with your future husband and the way he treats you.

The marriage, and legal marriage provides you with a written agreement which defines your rights. Without the marriage license you have only the rights that are defined in an agreement. Unless these terms are in writting it is difficult to prove those terms.

Generally you would be entitled to receive spousal support. The length of time for the spousal support would depend upon the length of the marriage and the difference between your ability to earn and his ability to earn.
