Legal Question in Family Law in California

Marrying a Divorced Person

I'm engaged to be married to someone whom had a nasty divorce and child custody trial. I'm concerned that once we are married that his ex-wife will go after my assets?

Is that possible? Is there anything I can do to avoid this to happen?
