Legal Question in Family Law in California

Is medical coverage for pregnancy covered in child support?

My ex-boyfriend makes a good living. I do not. I discovered I was pregnant 1 week after he left me. Is it possible for me to get medical coverage for the pregnancy from his medical insurance?

Also, he is a citizen of Canada. What rights do I have if he flees the country and goes back to Canada? Is it possible to collect child support from another country?

Thank you,

SK

Re: Is medical coverage for pregnancy covered in child support?

It is highly unlikely that his health insurance will cover your medical bills, however, by bringing a paternity action, even prior to the birth, the court can order him to pay your medical bills, or a good portion of them. You should contact an attorney to bring a paternity action. You will need financial support for the medical bills and you time out of work after the birth of the child. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
