Legal Question in Family Law in California
Medical insurance coverage
my husband is covered under my group medical insurance. He does not have group coverage available with his job and due to his pre-existing medical conditions he would not be able to get indiviual coverage (plus he couldn't afford it if he could get it). Legally what are my responsibilities once the divorce is final. He has told me that I legally can't drop him from the medical coverage.

Re: Medical insurance coverage
Once the divorce is final his coverage under your medical insurance ceases. He has the right to continue the coverage through COBRA. This coverage is expensive and is limited in the amount of time coverage is available. You should contact an attorney regarding this issue. If his condition is such that he has a limited life expectancy you may wish to delay the day on which the divorce judgment is entered. The attorney may be able to provide you with other alternatives.
Re: Medical insurance coverage
You should convert your divorce to a seperation so you can keep his coverage.
Good luck.
As always contact an attorney in your area if you have additional questions.
