menal illness in a custody battle?

the father of my 5 daughter might have a mental illness. i think he knows it but doesnt want to addmit it. he seems to be suicedal when he is depressed. im concerned because now he wants joint custody. i have full custody right now but we are going to court in a couple of months. how can i ask the court to see if he really is sick?
