Minor Name Change Jurisdiction

My son was born in california, but has lived in oklahoma with me for the past 6 yrs. In What state do I need to file for a name change for my minor son?

In california you have to apply to the Superior court in the county where you live. Check with the clerk in your county and see if it is the same there. Have a great 4th-Martin

You would first need to contact a lawyer in OK to find out the proper filing procedure there. Once you get an order changing name in OK, then, in order to change the name on the birth certificate which is recorded with the State of California, you would have to get a California Judgment confirming the OK Judgment and then submit that confirmation to the State of California, in the proper format. Then, about six months later, a new birth certificate shall be issued by the State of California.
