Legal Question in Family Law in California

Minor Putting Themself Up For Adoption

I am a minor, and I would like to seperate myself from my verbally and psychotically abusive parent, and possibly put myself up for adoption. I have a biological ''dead-beat'' father that was last located in California, and would possibly be an option for an alternative household. I have a very low budget, and would like to know if a state lawyer would be a possibility. Basically, I would just like to know how to go through the process.

Re: Minor Putting Themself Up For Adoption

I do not believe you can petition for adotion in California. You need someone who wants to adopt you to file that petition. If you old enough and mature enough you may be able to obtain an emancipation order, but you would have to show you can support yourself. Otherwise, you may contact child protective services (or whatevcer they are called in Illinois). If your life is in danger, they will put you in foster care until you are 18--but sometimes this can be even worse than your current situation. Also, there are numerous agencies out there that are available to help minors in your situation. If you look on the internet you should have no trouble finding an agency near you.
