Legal Question in Family Law in California

Minors choice..?

Can a 17yr old minor, soon to be 18, decide for herself whether she wants to continue visitation with one of the parents? If so, does she need to take any legal action and what would that be?

Re: Minors choice..?

Until she is 18 any visitation plan must be approved by the court. The court will consider her desires but will make its own decision. After 18, there is no custody plan as she is an adult. The obligation to pay child support continues until she is no longer a full-time high school student or reaches age 19, whichever occurs first. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
