Legal Question in Family Law in California

I missed the deadline for filing a pretrial statement (for very good reasons - I am no longer repped by legal counsel so my ex assured me he was willing to settle this between us). But now, the court has set a date for the Settlement Conference and the notice states that I will be sanctioned from presenting testimony and evidence! It's too late to file a continuance. My Q: What do I say or do to get the court to excuse my failure to file when I walk in the court room in a few days? Thank you!

You're a day late and a dollar short. You don't explain your reasons for not filing other than you thought the case would settle. I promise you the court will not accept that excuse. So unless you have something better, you better hire a new lawyer immediately and hope THAT will persuade the court not to sanction you.
