Legal Question in Family Law in California

If a mother and father of a child are not together and live in different states what type of visitation can the father expect from the courts? Is there any type of interstate visitation rights for the father, and can the mother legally deny visitation?

Visitation rights do not depend on where you live, but where the parents live will affect the visitation plan and schedule. The California Family Law system favors as close as possible to equal parenting time with each parent as the ideal, and then deviates from that as needed for the particular situation. The system also focuses entirely on the best interests of the child, not parental "rights." So you should think through and be prepared to propose a custody and visitation plan that is practical, reasonable, and child centered.
