Legal Question in Family Law in California
Hi my mother in law is approx. 81 she had adopted our nephew which she became ill and was not able to take care of him. We adopted him from her about 2 years ago he is 14 1/2 now. My mother in law wants to take my husband and I to court because we have had some falling outs and we refuse to let him go to her house since he runs wild over at her house. Do we need to hire an attorney? Do grandparents have visitation rights?

Grandparents have no rights as to grandchildren. Since you are now the adoptive parents you can decide who sees him, where, when, etc. I would recommend contacting her attorney if she has one and asking on what basis does he think he has a case. You probably should go to a family law attorney to see what you should do and when.
Mr. Shers is correct about rights. If she has an attorney, however, I would not contact them. Have an attorney of your own contact them for you. If she does not have an attorney, you really do not need to do anything unless and until she hires an attorney and/or tries to actually start a court case.
