Legal Question in Family Law in California

My mother has legal custody of my sister's 3 children. She is in failing health and I want to take custody with her consent. Do I need to go to probate court or can a legal arrangement between us suffice?

Not probate court family court. You will need an attorney to draw up an agreement and have it approved by the court. Try legal aid for free or discounted help. Good luck!
