Legal Question in Family Law in California
Ok.. My my mothers new husband adopted me when I was 3. They "claimed" they didnt know where my bio father was and posted an ad in the newspaper in a different state (CA) than where they actually knew my bio father was cause my mother had just moved out from living with my bio father in AZ. When my bio father didnt respond to the ad, they were granted adoption of me, had my bio father removed from my Birth Certificate had the original blacked out and SS # was changed. My mother when I was an adult told me all this and handed me my ORIGINAL BC and SSC and told me she saved it so if I ever needed to hide I could use them. I burned the unuseable SSC, but still have the original BC. Is what they did actually legal? Is there anything that can be done about it now if it is illegal?

What they did was not legal, but there is nothing you can do about it because you lack standing. The children have no rights to challenge or overturn a step-parent adoption. Your bio father might still be able to do something about it if he was willing to, but most likely it is too late even for him to do anything.
