Legal Question in Family Law in California

don't mothers have rights to their kids?

My son's father gave up his rights to the grandparents recently but i refuse to sign my child over. But yet the judge is giving them temp guardianship that may be granted full, I am very capable of taking care of my son and don't understand why I don't have any rights over my kid. Can you please help me figure out what I need to do to get my child?
