Legal Question in Family Law in California

moving from California to Colorado

I live in CA with my daughter and have full legal and physical custody of her. Her father does not have any visitation rights that are court ordered and does not currently pay child support! I am planning to move to Colorado in a few months and am wondering what steps I need to take to make this happen. Do I need to notify her father and get his permission as well as the courts before the move? Can he prevent us from moving?

You do not need to get his permission. However, even if the court has denied him any legal custody rights, unless his parental rights have been terminated, he still has some constitutional rights as a parent. I recommend you at the very least notify him of how he could still contact the child. If you are concerned he might make it a legal issue, then you may want to get a court order allowing the move. It is rare a court will give one parent sole legal custody. So I would double-check this if I were you.
