Legal Question in Family Law in California

My nine-year-old daughter has been invited to participate in an international ice skating team competition, which takes place in April in France. My ex refuses to let her go because he is uncomfortable with her going overseas. I would be with her, as well as numerous other adults, including a nurse and a retired homicide detective. My ex is welcome to go as well. Is there something I can do to see that she gets to go?

You can bring a motion and ask the court to allow the trip. As in any joint custody issues both parents must agree and if they do not the court may decide the issue. Make sure that your motion contains all fo the opportunities, advantages and information about the trip so that the judge will have that information upon which to make the decision. I would think that most judges, but not necessarily all of them will allow the trip. Good luck to your and your daughter. Pat McCrary
