Non-marital breakup

Hi -

I owned a truck and put my boyfriend on the title. Since then he beat me and I got a 3-year restraining order on him. I just got back from the DMV and they said that without his signature I could not sell, give away, or donate the truck. They even said that I cannot take my name off the title without his signature. I left in tears. What can be done to free myself of this truck?

(I paid registration, smog and insurance to avoid more late fees etc. I am getting very frustrated. I just want to be free of the truck and the relationship).

At a minimum sign a Release of Liability with the DMV.
