Obtain Original Birth Certificate
I wish to obtain my original Birth Certificate (for medical reasons). I was adopted by stepfather when I was about 8 yo. I was adopted in Denver,Co. They say they have no record of my birth. Could have been born in Wyo. All relatives now deceased and had been out of contact with for over 35 yrs. Born out of wedlock and other dark stories. I am disabled and live on a small disability income. Can you help?

Re: Obtain Original Birth Certificate
Your original birth certificate will be in the same state as your present birth certificate. You said you were adopted by your step father, Your mothers name is probably your last name listed on your original birth certificate.
Once you know which state your birth certificate is located you need to file a motion with the court where you were adopted. Most states are very difficult when you try to open the sealed adoption record. You must show good cause. Medical reasons may be sufficient but be prepared to convince the judge that opening the records will help your situation. Usually your birth certifate is not helpfull other than to get the name of both natural parents so you can contact them or their family to get medical history.
Most states have a registry that you can contact through the dept of vital statistics and can get information about your parents if they have registered. Chances are your real father has not registered if his name is not on your original birth certificate ( born out of wedlock) There are organizations that help locate families. Try ALMA - Adoptees Liberty Movement.Their number in Sacramento Ca is (916) 445-2562 They have locations is several states. Also International Soundex Reunion Registry in Carson City, Nev.
