Legal Question in Family Law in California

Obtaining copy of name change order

How is it possible to obtain another copy of a court order granting name change if something has happened to the original? Is this possible without re-filing altogether? Additionally, if the person in question is a minor, is the presence / consent of the legal guardian necessary to obtain this document?

Re: Obtaining copy of name change order

As a general rule court files for minors, adoptions and a few others are sealed. All other court files are public records. These records are available to the public and can be reviewed by anyone. You should be able to get a copy from the court file. However, you may need an order by a judge to gain access the the file.

If the resolution of the Court was issued in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Court system maintains a physical inventory of all its cases which may be photocopied, and certified.
