Legal Question in Family Law in California
Order of support for 13 yrs received 3 checks
I have an order for child support from CA that has been filed since 1989 (1 child). Since the divorce and order we have seen the father once. I have received 3 checks for support over a 4 year span. And each time I speak with the CA DA office they say he quits the job. I cannot afford an attorney, but I feel this absent father should be made responsible, he is healthy and is an able bodied person. What can I do on my own? He cannot renew his liscense I have been told by the DA. Can I draw up any documents that would require him to appear in court in front of a judge and have that judge demand he find employment and remain employed until his support and arrears are paid off? Or send him to jail for neglecting the order? What happens to parents who feel they are not responsible financially, parents who will quit a job or not work so child support isn't taken from them to support their children.

Re: Order of support for 13 yrs received 3 checks
A motion to determine the amount of the arrears and an employment efforts order. The child support office should have obtained such an order. The court could then place him in jail if he does not obtain employment. The district attorney can also prosecute him for failure to support his children.
