Legal Question in Family Law in California
I owe my ex back spousal support. I received a inheritance from my mother which I used to catch me up on my rent and other living expenses. Now my ex is taking me back to court for the money I owe her. Will it look bad that I didnt use the inheritance to pay her? Isnt a inheritance considered money for me to use that she is not entitled to?

It is not going to look good, but fact that you owe back spousal is the real issue. If you were still married it would be considered separate property, but that has nothing to do with your situation. You owe back support, and the fact that you inherited the money is not going to protect it from her trying to collect.
You may be in a position to try and settle with her for a discounted lump sum for the back support. Please confer with a skilled family law attorney to explore your legal options.
