Legal Question in Family Law in California

My Ex Owes Back Child Support

i had sole custody of my 2 children for 14 years before they went to live with their mother. while the children were living with me, i received only 3 to 4 child support checks a year totaling no more than $150 a check. anyways, now that my ex wife has custody of the children she wants me to pay full child support even though she owes more than $25,000 in back child support. can she do this? or does she have to pay off her debt to me first? please help with any info you have, thanks.

Re: My Ex Owes Back Child Support

Child support payments are due until paid and accrue interest at the rate of 10% per year. Depending upon mother's financial condition you may be ordered to pay current child support. The theory is that the children need the money now. You may however, try to work out an agreement to offset your current child support obligation against the support that she owes to you.
