Re: Palimony
California basically created the legal concept of "palimony".
In California, this concept is based in an agreement between the
people to treat their income and relationship to each other as if they were married. The agreement
is not against public policy on the grounds that one portion of the
consideration is sexual favors.
Proof of a sufficient agreement is difficult. However, the actual
treatment of income by the couple, as well as any expressions (and even better,
but rare, written agreement or mention) of an intent to share income or provide
for each other after separation in a specific manner, can help establish the agreement.
