Legal Question in Family Law in California

Parental Kidnapping/Unmarried Couple

I am living in California on a visa from the United Kingdom. My girlfriend and mother of my children is also living here on a visa. She has taken our two small children and gone to live with a friend. I am not sure of the address and my phone calls to her never go through. If we are unmarried, what rights do I have? What is the legal process of getting custody of my children?
