Legal Question in Family Law in California
Parental Liability
I have an adopted child of 15, that has been diagnosed with a severe emotional disorder, and has not responded successfully to available treatment. It seems inevitable that she will end up in the criminal or mental health systems in the near future, and is now only barely controlable. How can I protect myself financially from her actions beyond my control? I have heard that a minor can be declared ''out of control'' by the courts to limit the parents liability/responsibility. Is this True, and if so, how is it done?

Re: Parental Liability
You may file a petition to set asside the adoption if it has been no longer than five years since the order of adoption has been issued, and you did not have notice of the child's condition prior to the adoption. If it has been longer than five years since the order there are other ways to terminate the adoption if the child is in agreement to terminate. Please contact me directly at (619) 222-3504.
