Legal Question in Family Law in California

parental permission

I�m a father of a 8 yr old boy who is going on vacation with his grandparents (my parents). I�m not going with him. He�s going from California to Hawaii. He does not have an ID. De does however have a U.S. birth certificate. What other documents might he or my parents need? For example, like a affidavit, parental permission and medical consent?

His medical insurance card, maybe? Last I heard Hawaii was one of the 50 US States, same as Arizona, no passport, etc. required.
