Legal Question in Family Law in California

parental responsibility to minor children

My daughter is almost 17 and wants to live with a friend because she doesn't want to follow our rules. If I allow her to move out and she is not legally emancipated can I be held responsible if she doesn't go to school, cuts class, gets pregnant, drives without a licence or breaks the law in any other way? Am I expected to support her if she leaves? I really don't want her to leave but she is winning a campaign of attrition. Thanks

Yes she is under your responsibility still. You should consult with the family law clinic in your court to get some self help advice. A child being emancipated is a very big decision not to be taken lightly.

Please consult with an attorney before taking legal steps.

Good luck.
