Legal Question in Family Law in California

Parental responsiblity/minor child

My daughter is a single mother and must relocate (124 miles) for financial reasons. She has a minor daughter, who's age is 17 , who refuses to relocate with her and says that she (her mother) can't force her to go with her. Can she legally force her to go even if she refuses? If so, how? She is incorrigible. What are my daughter,s responsibilities if she can't get her to move?

thanks.

Re: Parental responsiblity/minor child

Since the child is a minor your daughter still has legal control, but to what effect? She may be creating a runaway and at 18 the child leaves and goes anywhere she wants This is not really a legal question it is a personal question. It is time to seek assistance of a counselor. It is very tough for most 17 year olds to leave their freinds, that group of friends are generally how they define themselves. I would be surprised if the daughter was not extremely upset with the move. That is good evidence that the child is normal. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
