Legal Question in Family Law in California

Parental Rights of Ex Step Parent through Domestic Partnership

I was never married to my son's birth father but during our 5 year relationship, I was acting step-parented his child from a previous marriage. I continue to have a parental relationship with the child through his 1/2 brother and birth father. The child's birth mother continues to deny any relationship between the child and myself since his father and I were never legally married. Now she has his school refusing to comunicate with me on any matters related to him. Do I have any legal recourse what-so-ever to continue my parental role?

That's a tough one. You may have the right to visitation but the right to communicate to school is a custodial right that you probably do not have. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
