Legal Question in Family Law in California

Parental Termination

I have full legal and physical custody of my 5-year old son. My ex-husband has not had contact with him at all except for about 15 minutes in April 2002 or 2003. Although I am not getting remarried, is it possible to terminate his parentage? He is already over 8000 in arrears and do not expect much payment (Kern County child support services is taking care of child support).

Re: Parental Termination

As a general rule the court will not terminate a parents parental rights unless there is another person to take the place of the displaced parent. They want the two parents to be responsible for the support of a child. You may be able to get a court order suspending or severely restricting visitation for the child's father.
